Longevity wins
The dilemma came again. In the meantime, I was considering whether to publish my writing using Jekyll or Let’s Blogging. It’s funny to have such consideration time really often, meanwhile, I can publish my writings everywhere, actually.
The biggest consideration is: how about my writings if I die? I want my writings to exist until the end of the internet. I don’t want my blog or writings to be deleted without any clear reasons, just like the blog I used to read. More than two thousand articles and hundreds of photos since 2005 were deleted by the service provider. That’s a nightmare for a blogger!
With those concerns, I think publishing my writings on GitHub is the best choice. I’ve never heard of a repository on GitHub being deleted for an unclear reason just like Google did. I’ve said in this post that the cons of publishing my writings in GitHub is the impractical flow. Turns out I should accept that. There’s no silver bullet, after all.
If something happened to GitHub, for example, it doesn’t support the GitHub pages anymore or the GitHub Pages become a paid service with an unreasonable price, or even worse, GitHub went into bankruptcy, then I still have my writing. I can move it to another provider that supports Jekyll.
I like the Let’s Blogging’s blog UI. It’s so simple. So, instead of publishing my writings to my old blog, I migrate it to the new one, by using the exact UI as the Let’s Blogging blog.
It’s now live. I hope I don’t change my mind again in the future, haha. I’m sick of it.
